Hardly touched upon by mass tourism, the Great Saint Bernard Valley, the Valpelline and the Ollomont Valley offer delightfully wild, rocky landscapes in which it is possible to observe the surviving traces of the traditional alpine economy of Aosta Valley.

At the Great Saint Bernard Pass, some stretches are still visible of the ancient Roman Road that once led to the Summus Poeninus, where wayfarers used to pass through and where a Hospice for pilgrims was later founded by Saint Bernard of Menthon. This welcoming, deeply spiritual place remains operative to this today, and is open to visitors.

At the end of the Valpelline visitors will find the spectacular artificial lake of Place Moulin, with the artificial dam that was completed in 1965: a work of great economic importance for the production of hydroelectric energy that also offers the opportunity to take a peaceful walk along the path that runs beside it.

The Ollomont Valley, meanwhile, is a little gem suspended over the central valley, in a truly wild, unspoilt environment, unknown to most, where specimens of the local wildlife can often be spotted. The basin is rich in both water and flowers, and is surrounded by a superb chain of mountain peaks.
