La Salle

Being an oasis of true peace and tranquillity and lying on a sunny and descending position, among orchards and vineyards, the town of La Salle was almost entirely restaured by keeping in mind the pre-existing and traditional architecture. Here lie also the vineyards thanks to which the DOC Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle, one of the highest wines in Europe, is produced.

WHAT TO SEE
Châtelard castle: dating back to the XIII century, it lies on a suspended area. It has a cylindrical tower which was built on the ruins of some previously existing walls.
The hamlet of Derby which hosts some remains of its shining Middle Ages, and the frescoed chapels in the various hamlets, in particular in Morge, Ecours, Cheverel and Charvaz.
Maison-musée Plassier: being the result of a testamentary legacy left to the municipality of La Salle, it owns a collection of furniture and works of art where were collected through the years by the eclectic benefactor.

NATURE AND SPORT
In addition to the various tracks in the mountains, around the vineyards or in the Marais nature reserve suitable for everybody, La Salle offers a series of possibilities to exercise. This area is truly suitable for horse riding and cycling, both MTB and road bike. Cycling lovers will find in the sport area of Maison Gerbollier a Bike Park, accessible from 6 years old, which has various difficulty levels.
In the sport area there are also some tennis, 5-a-side soccer and bowls courts. In La Salle you can also practice tandem paragliding.
In winter emotions don’t stop: various tracks for ski touring and snowshoeing start from La Salle, among which the one to Les Ors or to Court de Bard.

EVENTS AND TRADITIONS
San Cassiano Patron Saint’s Day Festival: in August the Patron Saint’s Day of La Salle is celebrated with the traditional “Badoche”, an institution which is present in other towns of the Valdigne too. The protagonists of this ritual are young men and women who wear traditional clothes: they bring joy and music all around the town. In that day, during the celebration in the main square, they make people dance.
● On Christmas Eve it is customary to make a procession before entering the Church with the reenactment of the Nativity.

FOR THE LITTLE ONES
Kids can explore the territory on foot, through some easy paths, such as the untomached road that leads to Morgex, by bike or while riding a horse. There's a manège in the hamlet Echarlod which proposes activity for children, such as the horse-riding school and excursions on poneys or by carriage.
Some cultural moments are available thanks to the L’Homme et la pente ethnographic museum. Nature can be discovered thanks to the explorations of the Marais nature reserve. A both indoor and open-air swimming-pool is accessible at the Relais Mont Blanc & Spa, as well as some playgrounds in the various hamlets.
