Life thrives on ground that has just been abandoned by the glacier.

1. Jardin du Miage or Lake Verde From the car park, take the right trail towards Dora di Veny. Before the bridge, take the path to the left that follows the stream. On the other side of Visaille bridge, take the path immediately to the right, which reaches Lake Verde after going up and down several times. 2. Lake Marmotte From the car park, take the right trail towards Dora di Veny. Go over the bridge and continue on the trail that crosses another stream. Leave the trail just after this second bridge and turn right onto a path that takes you through larch trees. Details of the excursion: - A PARTICULAR GLACIER The Miage glacier is the largest in the Italian Alps and forms a right angle as it leaves the foot of the rock wall and enters Val Veny. Its irregular face immediately expands over the whole valley and divides into two distinct lobes. Between the two lobes there is a free area stuck between two claws of ice. This wooded area is reminiscent of a garden, Jardin du Miage. A PARTICULAR LAKE Lake Marmotte, or Lac du Breuillat, has the embarrassing habit of disappearing every now and then. The left-hand lateral moraine cord that delimits it, is clearly too porous to enable the basin to be sealed for continuous periods.
