At 4634 metres, Punta Dufour is the highest peak of Monte Rosa and the second highest in the Alps after Mont Blanc.

The SE ridge, considered the Italian normal route, offers a beautiful climb over mixed terrain and breathtaking views.

Programme:

Day 1: 

Meeting with the mountain guide in Staffal at around 2pm. After the material check, we take the cable car to P.ta Indren. From here we hike and easily reach Cap. Gnifetti, where we spend the night.

Ascent: 1 hour - 370m

Day 2:

Departure around 03:00 depending on the time of year. Initially follow the Margherita track to the Gnifetti pass; here divert and climb to the Zumsteinspitze (4563m). 

From the summit, descend along the sharp ridge towards the Colle del Papa, where you meet the rocks of the SE ridge. Climb the ridge, which features rock jumps up to grade III, interspersed with thin snow ridges, to the summit of the Grenzgipfel; from here, follow the summit ridge to the main summit 4634m. The descent is along the same route.

We stop at Cap. Gnifetti to stow our rucksacks and continue our descent to the cable car station. With this we return to the valley.
